Having your own website to promote affiliate products is usually where most people start to make money affiliate marketing for many reasons. Having a website makes it more sustainable and almost works as a foundation for your promotions and content. But it is not necessary.
There are many methods available that can be used to do your affiliate marketing business. The list is long, but the most important methods are email marketing, writing relevant content for articles, join groups like Ezine Articles, online discussions, etc. I will explain some important methods that can be used to promote your affiliate products without having your own blog or even your own website.
It goes without saying that one of the first thoughts that comes to mind these days when you hear “affiliate marketing”, is email. Normal practice, your would email your list with affiliate links, and when people clicked on the affiliate links they would go directly to the merchant website, purchase the product, and then you would receive a commission. Your email should contain the introduction about the product you are promoting and your affiliate links. Try to make your emails interesting and brief.
With the help of these email marketing platforms it has made it easier to further expand your contact list. Not only are they responsible for blasting out email campaigns to thousands of subscribers daily, but now they are raising the bar keeping competitors on their toes. With good reason, as not only has technology developed fast and in a unique way over the years, but there has been a vast amount of new email marketing platforms that have emerged as well.
With services such as Aweber who recently came out with a new version offering easy to use landing page builder, consisting of drag and drop editor, fully integrated, and meeting all expectations of this digital landscape we work with today. It allows them to compete with new “SAAS” companies such as click funnels who seemed to be dominating the squeeze page/landing page side of the industry.
Adding this feature has also opened the door for affiliate marketers. With the option of building a simple landing page, consisting of good sales copy, images, and the right CTA, it allows marketers to skip having a website altogether. Use as many methods as you can to obtain new email addresses of new people. Try to stay away from buying or trading lists. You will have negative results when sending emails to people who have never heard of you or subscribed for that matter and will report you as spam.
This reminds me to briefly touch on the topic of the CAN-SPAM Act. In brief, a law that sets the rules for commercial email establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have your stop emailing them, and spells out tough penalties for violations. Despite its name, the CAN-SPAM Act doesn’t apply just to bulk email
You can use offline methods of promotion, like classified ads, flyers, etc. The best choice is the classified ads because its exposure is the largest. You can sign up with chat forums, and other similar opportunities of that nature.
Writing Free E-books
It is similar to email marketing. But in this method your will input affiliate links throughout the e-book (being relevant to the topic of course). These e-books can be sent to people on your list for free or as a free incentive to nurture new email subscribers. These e-books should be easy to read and helpful for the reader. The topics should be relevant to your affiliate products so that you can recommend the products and/or services in the body of e-book. Having relevant content is most important in order to keep the reader engaged and removes the possibility of them losing interest. Read more about content marketing strategy here.
Alternatively you can add a brief note about your affiliate products and affiliate links for promotion. If the readers like your e-book, they may visit the merchant website and make a purchase. Even if they don’t make a purchase on the specific item your reffed to them, most affiliate programs pay a commission on any purchase made on their site once you got them there. (depending on the details of the affiliate program and the length in cookies, etc)
Writing In Forums
Search for some forums, at least three, that are related to your product and have high page rank. Register on these forums and start some discussion in the forum where a lot of people are involved. Just post your questions there or answer some questions of other members and get engaged with the topic. But don’t add any promotion text in the body of your posts.
They prohibit any type of spam or selling tactics in these forums. Instead, you are allowed to put your signature at the end of your post. Here you can write your name and your affiliate links your want to recommend.
When you become an active member of this forum then you may get some traffic from these forums to your merchant website through your affiliate links. Over time, this will ultimately result in more sales of the products you are promoting.
You can write articles and publish them in the free article directories. You can embed your affiliate links in the text of your articles. If your articles are well formatted, informative and the article directory has large traffic then you can expect some good traffic to your affiliate links. And your know that more traffic on your affiliate links will result in a better chance of making sales over time.
The use of a website to promote your affiliate products is a good idea but it is not always necessary. You can use the alternate methods to promote your affiliate products. The most popular among these methods are email marketing of course but as the digital landscape keeps changing, so do results and stats. The other most popular techniques are writing to forums and article writing. The only take away is when you convert people over to a promotion directly, you lose the ability to obtain their email address. Then you lose the chance of them becoming a future customer. Instead, they just become a one time customer. (Which is better than no customer), but we want to try to leverage any situation that we can to obtain email addresses for future sales.
